Portable Version of TeraCopy

How to install TeraCopy from zip file

Please download and unzip this file:

1. Install location

To install for your user profile only, move the contents of the zip file into a

folder inside your profile, for example:

  • \Users\%USER%\Apps

  • \Users\%USER%\AppData\Local\Programs\

To install for all users, use a location accessible to everyone:

  • \Apps

  • \Program Files

Delete the Portable file so each user has their own data folder.

2. Run the install batch file

Run install.cmd from the install location. When run from outside your user

folder, it will automatically restart with administrator privileges.

The batch file will:

  • Register the copy handler (teracopy[arm|x86].dll)

  • Register the context menu extension (context[arm|x86].dll)

  • Add a TeraCopy entry to the modern context menu (optional)

3. 32-bit version

If you are using a 32-bit/x86 OS, replace these files with the ones in the

\32-bit folder:

  • TeraCopy.exe

  • Blake3.dll

4. Upgrading an existing installation

For minor upgrades, it is usually enough to copy TeraCopy.exe over the existing

file in the install location. Compare dates and file versions using the

Properties > Details tab to determine which additional files need to be copied.

5. Portable vs normal install

Where TeraCopy stores data depends on whether the Portable file is present:

  • Portable install (default; file present)

    • Data folder: same as the app folder

  • Normal install (recommended for all-user installs)

    • Data folder: %APPDATA%\TeraCopy (\Users\%USER%\AppData\Roaming\TeraCopy)

6. Uninstallation

Run uninstall.cmd from the install location.
